Samsung retains top position in global smartphone market, Apple’s second rank

Samsung, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics companies, retained its first position in global smartphone shipments in the third quarter of this year. According to a Counterpoint Research report, Samsung had a market share of about 20 percent in the third quarter. The company shipped 6.93 crore units. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the global smartphone market grew 6 percent in the third quarter but declined by almost the same when compared to the same quarter last year.

According to a Gizmochina report, a total of 342 million units were shipped in the market in the third quarter. Apple ranked second in the global smartphone market with a market share of around 14 percent. The company sold around 48 million units in the third quarter. This is an increase of 15 percent over the same period last year. Counterpoint Research says that the main reason for this growth is the continuous increase in sales of the iPhone 12 series and the launch of the new iPhone 13 series.

China’s Xiaomi is in third place with around 13 percent market share. However, Xiaomi’s smartphone sales declined by about 5 percent on a year-on-year basis and 15 percent on a quarter-on-quarter basis. The company sold around 4.44 crore units in the third quarter. The reason for the drop in sales may be due to interruption in the supply of components. In the third quarter, Realme recorded its highest ever shipments. The company’s sales stood at 1.62 crore units. In India, Realme overtook Xiaomi to take the second spot in the smartphone market in October. In October, Realme was the largest smartphone brand on Flipkart, with a market share of 52%. The main official online channel of the company is Flipkart and the company has its own website.
