The body is expected to meet next week to discuss the resolution passed by the Academic Council. The academic council, which has around 100 members, passed the agenda after discussing the recommendations submitted by the nine-member DU committee set up in October to deliberate on admission reforms. The committee, headed by examination dean DS Rawat, was constituted by vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh in October to suggest alternative strategies for optimal admissions in undergraduate courses.

Now this subject will be discussed in the meeting of the Executive Council to be held on December 17. The Academic Council met on Friday, 17 of the 26 elected members expressed dissatisfaction on the issue. Despite this, the proposal to hold a common entrance test was passed. Now the final decision will be taken in the meeting of the Executive Council on December 17.

Some members of the council opposed the decision, saying that taking admission in Delhi University’s undergraduate courses by conducting entrance exams would increase the number of coaching institutes, which would be detrimental to the socially and economically disadvantaged students. At the same time, many said that like engineering and medical entrance examinations, students will take coaching to prepare for DU, so that they will not be able to concentrate on their schooling. Let us tell you that a nine-member panel constituted by Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had recommended that an entrance test should be conducted for admission to Delhi University to ensure fairness in admission of students.
